Though you generally can, if you have a very small sharp and pointy tool, we recommend taking it to your local jeweler.
This might cost you $5 to quickly get it done, but it should prove to be easier since they have all the correct tools, and most likely they have done this many times before.
This way you can be sure that the watch case or glass won't get scratched and you won't stab yourself in the finger (believe me on this one).
