Origins of Débaufré: The origins of the Débaufré name can be traced back to the year 1704, when in conjunction with Nicholas Facio, Jacob and Peter Débaufré were granted a patent for the application of jewels to the pivot holes of movements in watches and clocks. This revolutionized the art of watch-making, and was a practice so far ahead of its time that it is still used today in most mechanical watches. They also invented and produced the first Frictional Wrist Watch Escapement. Sanders (US Army) Detailed History: The origins of Débaufré can be traced back to the year 1704, when in conjunction with Nicholas Facio, Jacob and Peter Débaufré were granted a patent for the application of jewels to the pivot holes of watches and clocks which revolutionized the art of watch-making, a practice so far ahead of its time that it still is used today in most mechanical watches. Peter Débaufré invented and produced the first frictional wrist watch escapement, featuring two saw-tooth escape wheels of the same count mounted on a pinion, their teeth staggered and driven by a contrate wheel. Peter Débaufré also devised a “dead-beat” or “club-footed” verge escapement, which was adopted with some alterations by several other watchmakers. Peter Débaufré was admitted into the Clockmakers’ Company in 1689. In 2005, we established our headquarters in Florida, and have since gained a solid and loyal customer base and in 2006 we established a Service Center near Tampa. The Watch Valley in Switzerland offered a unique opportunity to get great watches manufactured as per the high quality standards of traditional Swiss watch making. What began as a passion for mechanical watches, so many years ago, has developed into the success that is Debaufre Watches today. The mantra upon which Debaufre Watches was built: “More watch for the money”, has held true throughout the years. Combined with the principles of doing two things very well: manufacture high quality Swiss watches at affordable prices and provide exceptional customer service. We receive our leather straps from a German leather company named Rios 1931, which are known for their exquisite and high quality leather watch straps.
