"I have dedicated myself to look for old small well established or newly formed houses that produce good timepieces with excellent calibers (Unitas, Peseux, Dubois, complicated ETA`s, Valljouxs, etc) good craftsmanship and materials at an affordable price. Interestingly, I have found them to be more of a conversation piece in many circles. After all, Rolex, Patek, Breguet, Cartier, Audemars, etc, will always be what they are!
The watch (a newly acquired Militaire Unitas 6498) looks better in person than photos. It definetely has character. (42 mm plus crown). The craftsmanship of the case, dial and movement went beyond my expectations. The front and back sapphire crystals sets the tone of what is coming. The moderately decorated Unitas movement with its blued screws is a pleasure to look, as well as the dial readability and color combination that gives it an Italian flair reminiscent of some much more expensive watches. In terms of movement precision, the watch has been used now for a week and it has performed flawlessly with less than 3 seconds per day difference. The deploy clasp is rugged, versatile and feels strong and durable bringing an extra step of personality to the watch. The crown… what can I say, it is there and it is the most appealing characteristic of the watch.
All in all I do concur with you. This watch is priced well below "the sum of its parts" and it is definitely a "Brand 2 Watch". Best Regards and Happy Holidays." Jorge S. MD
